How To Make Calendula Salve

What you need:

The first step in making salve is making infused oil. Don’t be discouraged, making infused oil is very simple. Place dried calendula flowers into a pint-size mason jar until it is half full. Pour avocado oil in to cover the flowers. Screw on the lid.

Set the jar aside at room temperature and allow it to sit for 4-6 weeks (give it a shake once a day). You will notice that the oil takes on a golden color at the end of 4 weeks.

Fast infusion method

The fast way to infuse oil is to place your jars of oil and flowers with the lid screwed on, in a crockpot. Fill the crockpot with water up to the rim of the mason jar. Turn the crockpot on warm and allow the mixture to infuse for 3 to 4 hours. Then proceed with the rest of the steps.

Now that you have the oil ready, it is time to strain out the flowers from the oil. Place a cheese cloth or coffee filter into a fine mesh strainer. Pour the oil and flower into the filter and allow to drain. Carefully gather the filter and squeeze the excess oil out of the flowers. You want to get all the oil you can.

Next, weigh out the avocado oil and beeswax and place them in a double boiler. Allow the oil and beeswax to warm on medium low heat until the beeswax melts. (Around 150 degrees)

Now, pour the liquid into containers and allow the salve to completely cool. The salve will turn from a golden liquid into a creamy off-white color. Place lid on your jars and store in a cool dark place. Stored properly the salve will last a year.
