What You Need:

White Cheddar: If you have never used white cheddar before it is simply cheddar cheese without the added annatto food coloring. We enjoy sharp cheddar the most, but any kind of white cheddar will do. I buy mine in a block and shred it myself to avoid the anti-caking agents in pre shredded cheese.

Cream Cheese: Use full fat cream cheese for the best flavor.

Sour Cream: I suggest Daisy sour because the only ingredient is cream. No additives.

Dried Herbs: Onion powder and Garlic powder are key ingredients for making this cheeseball taste phenomenal. I buy mine in bulk to save money.

Sea Salt: Table salt has added iodine and anti-caking additives, so I use Himalayan pink sea salt.

How to Make White Cheddar Cheeseball

First, shred the white cheddar cheese and then add it to a large mixing bowl.

Next, add the cream cheese, sour cream, onion powder, garlic powder, and sea salt. Use a hand mixer to mix all of the ingredients together.

Scrape the sides of the bowl with a scraper spatula and form the cheese mixture into a ball shape. Place the cheeseball on a plate and cover it with plastic wrap.

Chill the cheeseball in the refrigerator for 4 hours or overnight. Overnight is best because it gives the cheeseball flavors time to meld together and to properly chill all the way through.

When you are ready to serve the cheeseball, place it on a serving platter and add gluten free crackers around the cheeseball on the platter.

Add ins:

There are several additions that you may want to add to your cheeseball. I want to be honest and say that our family enjoys cheeseball without any of the following add ins, so I do not have personal experience with them, but your family may very well enjoy them. That is the joy of cooking, experimenting, and finding out what your family loves.

Nuts: Walnuts, pecans, or almonds are great choices for a cheeseball. Measure out 1/2 cup of nuts and place them in a large Ziplock bag. Use a rolling pin to crush the nuts into small pieces. Pour the nuts onto a plate and take the cheeseball and gently roll the cheeseball around so that the nuts stick to the outside of the cheeseball covering all the sides.

If you are going to add the nuts to the cheeseball, roll them on a few hours before serving to ensure that the nuts are crunchy and do not soften.

Green onions and bacon: Cut up 5 slices of cooked bacon and 5 green onions. Put them onto a plate and roll the cheeseball around causing them to stick to the sides of the cheeseball. Keep rolling until all of the sides of the cheeseball are covered.

Smoked Ham or Smoked Beef: Buy thinly sliced deli smoked ham or smoked beef. Same concept as the above add ins. Chop up the meat into small pieces and roll the cheeseball onto the meat to cover all of the sides of the cheeseball.

What do You do with the leftovers?

Refrigerator: Store in the refrigerator covered in saran wrap or a sealed container for up to two weeks.

Freeze: Yes, you can freeze cheeseball. Wrap it in saran wrap and place in a freezer container and freeze for up to a month. Thaw in the refrigerator overnight when you want to use it.

Make New Meals: Use the cheeseball to make many other delicious meals. Crumble it on top of a salad, stuffed chicken breast or pork chops, spread it on bread for a grilled cheese sandwich or boil some pasta, melt the cheeseball down with some pasta water, and make mac and cheese. The skies the limit on the possibilities.
